Team Discussion

The teacher of a Manhattan classroom can divide students into teams for the purpose of completing team-based projects.  If your course involves team projects, you can enable the Team Discussion module to provide a forum for team members to collaborate.

The Team Discussion module is a forum similar to the Class Discussion module.  The difference is that messages are exchanged only between members of the same team.  (The teacher controls who is on each team using the Assign Teams item on the classrooms Configuration menu.)  For example if you are in team D, any message you post to the Team Discussion module can be seen only by others who are in team D.

By enabling the Team Discussion module, you are providing a service to your students by giving them a place in the online classroom to collaborate on their team-based projects. As the teacher, you can choose to be on ONE of the teams, but typically the teacher should stay out of it altogether. That is, the teacher usually remains on team 'Z' all by himself. If you want to be involved in the teams' discussions, then consider enabling the Team/Teacher module

If your course includes team-based projects, you can enable both the Team Discussion and the Team/Teacher Discussion modules. The former provides a place for team members to interact without you, while the latter allows the team to discuss things with their teacher.
