One of the two classes I took with AyaEd this year was Language Arts. In Language Arts we mainly dealt with punctuation, spelling, and the different aspects of writing. Our teacher was Baba Wekesa Madzimoyo and our class consisted of nine people (Me, Saboor, Sarafina, Ife, Afua, Dilane, Bakari, Terrence, and Kinte.) The assignments that I liked the most in this class was the Home Essay, which was the first essay I wrote in this class. I also liked the descriptive writing. The writing that I learned the most from was the proverbial writing. In this class I gained surplus knowledge hope that I can gain more next year.
This year in Afrikan World class I learned more than enough mainly because of wonderful teaching from Baba Wekesa and support from my classmates and my parents…
At the beginning of the school year we each chose different parts of the world to study. The part of the world I chose was East Asia. I also learned a gargantuan amount of knowledge about Ancient KMT and Ancient Nubia/Kush. The main time periods we studied were the 12th through 25th dynasties of ancient KMT.
This was the first essay we had to write in Language Arts class. This essay was susposed to be about what you think the song ‘Home’ is about and what our home is to us.
“She talks about how beautiful her home is. If someone heard this song they would be inspired to reminisce on and return to her home.”
“My home is a place where I can rest, play, relax, and perform the daily activities of life. It is also a place where someone can live, build a house, and start a family.”
“Your home is not just the place where you are born, but a place where your ancestors are from.”
During the school year we had to write descriptive essays about different things, like pictures and songs. The purpose of these essays was to allow us to think more about what things mean on a non-physical and physical level.
“Seeing this picture many things come to my mind. I think of “free expression”. I also think of the ability to speak your mind. The last but not the least thing that comes to my mind is music.”
“Free expression is basically the ability to say what you want to say when you want to say it.”
“Speaking your mind is when you say what is on your mind.”
“The type of music that this picture reminds me of is poetry. In other type of music you don’t always use a microphone and the microphone is not that essential.”
During the middle of the school year we started we would start off the class by doing proverbial writing, which is writing about a proverb. To me these were the most knowledge enriching assignments we had to do. I learned a lot about many different proverb that and about how these proverbs affect our life.
“This proverb shows that you should not always blame things that you did wrong on other people. It shows that you should take the blame for something that you did wrong. When we stop blaming other people and accept our own blame we will become stronger.”
During the school year we had to make PowerPoint presentations about various subjects. Here are excerpts from two of the presentations that I did. The first presentation is about King Ahmose of the 25th dynasty of Ancient KMT. The second presentation is about East Asia between 4500 BC – 4000 BC.
