Interview: With Ms. Eunice Dudley, Dudley Beauty Corp, LLC Interview Conducted Feb. 2010. Interviewer: Wekesa O. Madzimoyo, AYA Educational Instiute Wekesa Madzimoyo: “Thank you Mrs. Dudley. We are here this afternoon with Mrs. Eunice Dudley of Dudley Products and Dudley Enterprises. Ms. Dudley will you please tell me your name, your title and your business?” Eunice Dudley: “My name is Eunice Dudley, and I’m the school director for Dudley Cosmetology University on 900-B E. Mountain St. in Kernersville, N. C. and I am the executive director for a beauty school here in Charlotte, N.C. at 1950 Bishop Madison Ln. and that’s Dudley Beauty College. Also, the executive director for Dudley Beauty College 8501 S. Green St. in Chicago, IL. And, of course, we have directors that are here in Chicago and in Charlotte. I, more or less, direct them from above and I actually have the great work of actually running my school in Kernersville, NC. As you can see, I’m busy.” WM: “Yes, you are (laughing), so let get right to it. I want to ask you about the tax preparation. What your experience with Dr. Jackie Mayfield as a tax preparer. I want you to reflect on that.” ED: “I was introduced to Dr. Mayfield, oh, about 10 years ago, and he brought the COMPROTAX people to our campus for a meeting and seminar. And several years ago, when I started to get him to explain his program to let us know the intensity, depth and breath of what he actually does: tax preparations. Because of that, I have had him to do all of the tax preparations for my companies as well as for all the companies, our landholding company. We’ve had him to do all of those for the past two years. He has opened my eyes as to how many tax items that I was leaving on the table using my previous tax preparers. Now, of course, a lot of times because someone charges an expensive rate, we assume they know what they’re doing, but when you have somebody that’s very, very detailed and very, very thorough like Dr. Jackie Mayfield, then you find that you are going to be able to get all those deductions, and he is going to get you to think about the things that you need to do, and you have to be ready and prepared that you need at preparation time.” WM: “It sounds like tax planning? ...Like having to think about your business in ways that have you prepared ahead of time?” ED: “Yes, so we’ve had some joint meetings of the holders of all our companies at one time with Dr. Mayfield in order for him to understand how all these companies relate to each other. He wanted to help us to get credit for all the different things that we’re doing. So it makes a really, really good envelope. You seal it with everything that’s being dealt with; all being taken care of. I’ve been very, very happy with him calling and reminding me of things I need to do; or things he needed me to check into; or ask me had I thought about this, have I thought about that; and do you plan to do this, do you plan to do that. Therefore, it is so very good that I have the ability to pick up the phone and, call him as well as him being able to call me. I’m always available for everybody, but the minute I hear Dr. Mayfield, I get that call through, and it makes a big difference.” WM: “So you’ve already told us that with other tax preparers, that you were paying handsomely; that Dr. Mayfield’s service and his skill and knowledge is considerable compared to those.” ED: “Yes.” WM: “Excellent, excellent. Well, you have…you have certainly enlightened me, and given us sense of how Dr. Mayfield “rolls,” as the young people say, and how he deals someone at your business level with your varied business enterprises. ED: “Yes, I’ve been very, very pleased. In fact, I’ve been ecstatic over the services I have received from Dr. Mayfield.” WM: “I really thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule. We know the kind of sacrifice it takes to get where you are and to continute to provide distinctive service to our people. Mrs. Dudley, I want to say, from me to you, thanks.” ED: “You’re very welcome.” --------------- Dr. Eunice Dudley, co-founder, co-owner and chief financial officer of Dudley Beauty Products, holds the key to running a multi-million-dollar business. “In business, you have to have ethics,” she says. “You have to learn it, teach it and walk it on a daily basis.” Dudley is a true inspiration and model of hard work. Not even chemotherapy could stop this cancer survivor from putting all her energies into the business she formed with her former husband, Dr. Joe L. Dudley Sr., 40 years ago. In addition to co-running the business, Dudley is a motivational speaker, adviser and contractor for Dudley Beauty Products.
